Ibiza With Kids: The Best Family-Friendly Plans

Ibiza carries a reputation that comes from a very small part of the island. The reality is that many of the people who visit in summer are families, there are coves with clear, calm water where a four-year-old can spend the whole day, and holiday stress here is considerably lower than at many other destinations.

This is the Ibiza you rarely see in the reports.

The best beaches in Ibiza for families with kids

The key is to look for gentle access to the water, shallow areas and some shade or facilities nearby.

Cala Bassa. Probably one of the best for families. Fine sand, water that gets deep gradually, pine trees providing shade at the back and plenty of facilities. Located in the municipality of Sant Josep, with parking and also accessible by boat from Sant Antoni, which for children is already half the fun.

Cala Tarida. Spacious, with several sandy areas and a gradual entrance into the water. There are plenty of places nearby, which helps when an emergency ice cream is required.

Es Figueral and S’Argamassa, on the northeast coast, are quieter and tend to be less crowded in August.

Ses Salines is beautiful, although some parts have more music and a younger crowd. If you are visiting with small children, stay towards the southern end, which is more family-oriented.

One practical warning: in August, if you do not arrive before around 10:30, parking becomes difficult. That is true across much of the island.

A day trip to Formentera

One of the best plans with slightly older children. The ferry takes around half an hour from Ibiza port. Once there, you can rent bikes or a small car and visit turquoise-water beaches that look like something from a travel brochure because they really are.

With very young children it can become a long day. From around six or seven years old, it works very well.

Dalt Vila as if it were a castle

Because it is. Turning the walk up to the fortified city into a story about a fortress with walls, bastions and cannons works surprisingly well with children. There are ramps and stairs, so a pushchair can be inconvenient. A baby carrier is better for very young children.

Go up early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Around midday in summer is not the time to do it.

Markets that kids love

Las Dalias, in Sant Carles, and Punta Arabí, in Es Canar, are the two big ones. They mainly operate during the season, with craft stalls, live music and a festival-like atmosphere. For a child, it is an entertaining afternoon without needing much explanation.

Check the days and opening hours before going, as they change depending on the time of year.

Ses Salines and the flamingos

The natural park has flat trails that are easy to walk with children, and in autumn and winter you can see flamingos in the salt ponds. It is one of the few activities that works just as well during the low season, and seeing a real flamingo often impresses children more than any attraction.

A day on a boat

There are half-day trips from Sant Antoni and Ibiza port that travel along the coast and stop for a swim in one of the coves. With children, trips lasting two or three hours are usually better than full-day excursions.

If they get seasick easily, choose a day when the sea is calm and stay around the middle of the boat.

Eating out in Ibiza with kids without the stress

This is what worries almost every family, and for good reason: in summer many places on the island are full, waiting times are long and the atmosphere does not always suit a tired child.

Three things genuinely help:

Eat early. Dinner is late in Ibiza, often around ten. If you sit down at eight, you avoid the busiest period and usually receive more relaxed service.

Book ahead. During high season, turning up without a reservation with children is asking for trouble. A single call saves you from waiting outside.

Look for outdoor space. A terrace changes everything. Children can move around, they are less likely to disturb anyone and adults can stay at the table longer.

At Social Point, that works in our favour, as we explain in more detail in this article about visiting with family, your partner or friends. We have a terrace, grilled meat is usually a safe choice with children, and we are not a silent restaurant where one extra laugh makes anyone uncomfortable: there is music and atmosphere, and that works well for families.

If you are coming with children, book your table and mention it when you make the reservation. We are open Monday to Sunday, from 13:00 to 02:00, so a late lunch after the beach works too.

What really matters

Ibiza works for families if you accept its rhythm: early mornings at the beach, a siesta or something quiet during the hottest hours, and afternoons exploring a village, market or going for a walk. Trying to do everything with children in August is the surest way to end up exhausted.

For centuries, the island has been a place where people eat, share and spend time together. The party scene is only one chapter, and it is not even the longest one.
