Dining in Sant Josep and Cala Tarida: Area Guide

The area has changed quite a lot in recent years. It used to be mostly beach bars and seasonal restaurants; now there is a more stable selection, including places that stay open outside the summer season.
Broadly speaking, this is what you will find:
On the beach. Cala Tarida, Cala Comte and Cala Bassa have restaurants right by the sand. The obvious advantage: the view. The downside: beachfront prices and, in many cases, winter closures.
In Sant Josep village. Ibizan and Mediterranean cuisine in a quieter atmosphere, with fewer constantly changing tourists and more local customers.
Along the road and in the surrounding area. This is where you tend to find places that stay open all year and attract people who live on the island, precisely because they do not depend on the beach season.
That last category is where we fit in.
We are a grill restaurant. Grilled meat cooked over wood, a way of cooking that takes time and cannot be rushed. We are also a wine bar, and there is music, a terrace and plenty of noise from people having a good time.
We are not a quiet dinner spot. If that is what you are looking for, there are better options in the village and we are happy to recommend them. If what you want is a long table, meat, wine and somewhere to stay late, that is exactly our territory.
We are open Monday to Sunday, from 13:00 to 02:00, all year round. That matters in this part of the island: between November and April, a large part of the beach offering closes.
You will find us at Carretera de Sant Josep (San José), km 2, 07817 Ibiza, on the road connecting Ibiza Town with the village of Sant Josep. One combination that works well, and one we do ourselves:
Spend the morning at Cala Bassa or Cala Tarida while there is still somewhere to park. Have a late lunch at around three, when the beach is busier and the sun is strongest. Head up to Torre des Savinar or Cala Comte for sunset. Then finish with a long dinner, with no rush to be anywhere else.
In winter the order changes: walk around Sa Talaia or the empty coves at midday, then settle in for a long lunch afterwards. Without the pressure of the beach, the time at the table tends to stretch naturally.
Sant Josep is large and spread out. It is not a village where everything is within easy reach: it is a municipality made up of villages, coves and roads running through pine forests. Distances can be deceptive because the roads are narrow and winding.
A car is practically essential. Public transport connects the main beaches with Ibiza and Sant Antoni during the season, but services are limited and almost nonexistent outside the summer months.
Parking is the real problem in July and August. At Cala Comte and Cala Bassa, there is little space left after around 10:30 in the morning. If you are arriving later, head straight to Cala Tarida, which has more capacity.
Be careful when driving back at night. Many roads in the area have no lighting or hard shoulder. Drive slowly and, if you are planning to drink, arrange your return before you go out. You will not generally find taxis waiting outside the door here: they need to be booked in advance.
The area gets very busy during high season. From June to September, it is worth booking ahead, especially if you are a group or want a table on the terrace. Outside the main season there is usually more flexibility, but it is still worth calling because winter opening hours in the area can be irregular.
